Calculating the Moon…

What these numbers mean
The percentage shown is how much of the moon’s visible surface is lit by the sun right now. “Waxing” means it’s growing toward full; “waning” means it’s shrinking back toward new. The moon also changes zodiac sign roughly every two to three days, which is why it moves through the chart far faster than the sun or any planet.
The 8 moon phases, explained
- New Moon — invisible from Earth; a natural starting point for setting intentions.
- Waxing Crescent — a thin sliver of light; early momentum building.
- First Quarter — half-lit; often when the first real obstacles to a plan show up.
- Waxing Gibbous — more than half lit; refining and adjusting before the finish line.
- Full Moon — fully illuminated; things come to a head, get revealed, or reach a peak.
- Waning Gibbous — just past full; a natural point for gratitude and sharing what you’ve learned.
- Last Quarter — half-lit, shrinking; letting go of what isn’t working.
- Waning Crescent — a thin sliver again; rest and reflection before the next new moon.
What today’s moon sign means

- Moon in Virgo — detail-oriented, drawn to tidying up loose ends.
- Moon in Libra — seeking balance and connection, avoids conflict.
- Moon in Scorpio — intense and private, emotions run deep.
- Moon in Sagittarius — restless, honest, craving freedom.
